Carmel Mountain Ranch and Sabre Springs are bedroom communities on the east side of I-15 just south of Rancho Bernardo. The homes here are newer –- construction began in the early 80s.
Sabre Springs and Carmel Mountain Ranch are both family-oriented. These areas are very popular with professionals who want good access to the employment centers of downtown San Diego, Kearney Mesa, and the Golden Triangle but still want their kids to attend Poway Unified Schools.

Carmel Mountain Road is a retail extravaganza. You will find just about every kind of shopping, service, and restaurant you could want, with the possible exception of a major department store. See my “Shop Till You Drop” page for more details.
If you are a golfer, you will want to check out the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club with its 72-hole championship course. It is currently open to the public but there is a rumor that this will soon become a private, members only facility.

Carmel Mountain Ranch and Sabre Springs share a recreation center at 10152 Rancho Carmel Drive. There are a gymnasium, basketball courts, and lighted softball fields. For more info, call 858-538-8100.
Plus, both communities have neighborhood parks. And there are private fitness centers, such as Frog's Club One Fitness, that you can join for swimming, tennis, or a good workout.
