it is the quiet, security, great restaurants, shopping, or all of the above.
Whatever the reason, every year, hundreds of seniors move to Rancho Bernardo.
Housing Areas For Seniors
For homebuyers who are "55 or better", Rancho Bernardo is a unique place. There are two adult communities: Seven Oaks and Oaks North. In both of these neighborhoods, there are single family homes and condominiums. And both have community centers with extensive recreational activities specifically designed for seniors.
Seven
Oaks is the original senior community in Rancho Bernardo. Homes in Seven
Oaks are all single story and were built in the '60s and '70s. Seven Oaks
is extremely well-located with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and services
in three shopping centers.
Oaks North is our newer 55+ community, which was built in the '70s and '80s. The homes surround the Oaks North Golf Course, a 27 hole par 3 layout that is open to the public. All Oaks North homes are single story; though some of the condos require you to negotiate a few steps up or down to get to the unit. The Rancho Bernardo Inn and the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo are within easy golf cart distance.
Ed Brown Senior Center
In addition to the Seven Oaks and Oaks North Community Centers, many RB seniors enjoy the recreational facilities offered by the Ed Brown Senior Center at 18402 West Bernardo Drive. To learn more about the Ed Brown Center, call 858-487-9324.
Retirement Facilities
There
are also two retirement facilities in Rancho Bernardo. The Remington Club
at 16925 Hierba Drive is a full service rental retirement facility. It offers
three levels of care: independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing
card. The Remington Club is operated by Marriott. For more information, call

Casa de las Campanas is located at 18655 West Bernardo Drive. It is operated by Life Care Services and is a quality Continuing Care Retirement Community. First class services and guaranteed nursing care are offered. For additional information, call 858-592-1870 or toll-free 800-554-6403.
Retired Service Volunteer Patrol (RSVP)
A unique feature of Rancho Bernardo is the Retired Service Volunteer Patrol. This group of community-minded seniors augments the San Diego Police Department with the goal of keeping Rancho Bernardo safe and secure. Volunteers make rounds throughout RB checking on homes when the residents are out of town and generally keeping their eye on the community. They also help coordinate the most extensive Neighborhood Watch program anywhere.
Transportation by DART
The San Diego Transit Authority offers a local bus service called DART. Rancho Bernardo seniors can arrange to be picked up and dropped off by a DART bus anywhere in RB for $1.00. Reservations can be made up to two days in advance by calling 877-841-3278. The DART service connects to the San Diego City bus lines or to the Poway bus line.
